In 1992, Schmiddem received an offer from Phoenix Design. 6 years of highly interesting design processes followed. Thanks once again at this point and three selected “favorite products” that Schmiddem largely worked on during this time in the team of Phoenix. Ergo and Largo by Loewe. Homehandy by Hagenuk.
In 1997, Schmiddem established his office in Berlin. Later then, her received the call from the design-legend Hartmut Esslinger in California, the founder of the legendary design forge “frogdesign”, asking him to join frogdesign. A long, humorous talk and an unparalleled offer followed. Yet Schmiddem remained true to his motto: “Only if it says Schmiddem on the label, does it really contain Schmiddem”. In the following years he expanded his studio in Berlin into one of the most successful offices in the world.
